The tasks a Picker (Tobacco) is expected to perform include:Removing stems, off-coloured tobacco and foreign material from tobacco

Ensuring separation of strings, dirt and paper from tobacco before processing

Undertaking transfer of tobacco to the conveyor to ensure clean and uniform product

Collecting pickings in bags attached to conveyor frame

Segregating tobacco according to varieties such as dark tobacco, green tobacco, tobacco with stems, etc.

Skilled in picking leaves without causing damage to crop

Knowledge of techniques and equipment used for pruning and harvesting the crop

Knowledge of compensation, labour laws and relations, etc.Knowledge of the latest advancements in tobacco picking and handling

Exports have grown at a rate of 15.8% from US$ 322.49 million in 2005-06 to a record US$ 900.64 million in 2012-13. As of March 2014, the exports showed a value of about US$ 98.69 million.
