The tasks a Baker (Baking Products) is expected to perform include:
Mixing and baking ingredients according to recipes to produce breads, pastries and other baked goods
Measuring flour, sugar, milk, butter, shortening and other ingredients to prepare batters, dough, fillings and icings, using a scale and graduated containers
Dumping ingredients into a mixing machine bowl or steam kettle to mix or cook them according to specifications
Rolling, cutting and shaping dough to form sweet rolls, pie crusts, tarts, cookies and related products preparatory to baking
Placing dough in greased or floured pans, moulds or on sheets and baking it in an oven or on a grill
Controlling the temperature of the oven by regulating thermostats or by adjusting dampers
Checking the progress of the baking by observing the colour of the products and noting the length of time in the oven
Removing the baked products and placing them on cooling racks
Applying glaze, icing or other toppings to the baked goods, using a spatula or a brush
Decorating cakes and developing new recipes for cakes and icings
In-depth knowledge of safety and hygiene regulations
Ability to smell and taste foul food and discard it
Ability to keep abreast with the latest technology and techniques in baking
Knowledge of mixing and kneading the dough
Skilled in using the machinery involved in the process of baking
Skilled in developing and creating new products
Skilled in decorating confectionery
