Overview of IT Hardware Industry in India

IT Hardware is one of the fastest growing segments with CAGR of 21% (FY 2002 to 2009). The production of this sector in FY 2008 was 159 billion. In FY 2009, this came down to 135 billion on account of the economic slowdown.

Increasing income, education requirements, e-Governance initiatives, Common Service Centre (CSC) schemes, and the penetration of internet and broadband services have fuelled the demand in this sector. This segment was dominated by local assemblers and some branded Indian companies until recently. A number of MNCs (such as Compaq, HP, IBM, DELL and ACER) have entered the Indian space.
