The tasks a Net Maker, Hand is expected to perform include:
Making nets and meshes by weaving twine and thread with netting needle or shuttle
Selecting design of netting and kind of twine or thread required
Plaiting and knotting twine or thread with netting needle or shuttle to prepare selected patterns
Waxing twine while weaving to smoothen and strengthen it
Trimming excess twine or thread
Competent in making nets and meshes using twine and threads
Well-versed with plaiting and interweaving techniques
Knowledge of twines and threads, and how to use them

Handicrafts and carpets units usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from unit to unit

In the 1970s, the government began initiatives for the preservation of crafts and skill upgrade to focus on meeting the challenges that the sector was facing. However the focus shifted to export in the later decades. Based on historical trends, the Handicrafts sector is expected to grow by 16% during 2013?17 and by another 16% during 2017?22.
