The tasks a Sorter, Brick and Tile is expected to perform include:
Sorting burned bricks, tiles or refractory goods according to colour (shade), hardness and quality
Removing product from kiln, examining it visually for colour, hardness and shape
Tapping product with finger or wooden rod to judge quality by sound
Discarding broken pieces
Sorting and marking products according to shade, quality, etc. with chalk
Knowledge of inspection methods of bricks, tiles or refractory goods
Proficiency in handling various instruments related to inspection
Competent in identifying defects
Well-versed with maintaining of reports and records
Will be updated
Attention to detail
Hand-eye co-ordination
Precision skills
Manual dexterity
Problem-solving skills
It requires one to be on their toes
May need to handle a team of helpers
Local travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours
Brick and tile factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory

Employment Prospects and Significant Growth of Indian Handicrafts Industry
Indian Handicrafts represent beauty, dignity, form and style. In the 1970s, the government began initiatives for the preservation of crafts and skill upgrade to focus on meeting the challenges that the sector was facing. However the focus shifted to export in the later decades. It plays a significant role in the country?s economy and provides employment to more than 7.3 million people; mostly from rural and semi-urban areas.
Today, handicrafts and handcrafted gift items manufactured and exported from India are much sought -after and have established an unsurpassable reputation in the international market. According to provisional data, the exports of Indian handicrafts in the period of April-August 2014-15 has shown an increase of US$ 256.32 million, which is about 18.06% over the same period in 2013-14. Based on historical trends, the Handicrafts sector is expected to grow by 16% during 2013?17 and by another 16% during 2017?22. As the industry grows, so will the job opportunities for Sorter, Brick and Tile.
