Certified training for Cleaver (programme aligned to G&J/Q 4404 released by the Gem & Jewellery Skills Council of India)

Minimum 6 months of work experience/on-the-job training

The task a Cleaver is expected to perform include: Cutting rough diamonds into two pieces without shattering it

Dexterity of the hands

Good eyesight

Knowledge of diamond cleaving procedure

Basic knowledge of physical characteristics of a diamond

Knowledge of 4Cs of diamond

Basic understanding of the equipment and tools involved and its repair work

Knowledge of the types of inclusions in a diamond

Knowledge of other techniques of rough cutting

Good understanding of proportions/symmetry

Visualization capabilities

Patience

Ability to work independently
