This sector is particularly important in ensuring employment for a large and growing working age population. Manufacturing, currently at 15% of GDP, needs to grow at a rate that is 2-3% higher than GDP, in order to make a significant contribution to our economy and towards employment generation.
As per the national manufacturing policy report released on 25th October 2011 the government of India has announced a national manufacturing policy with the objective of enhancing the share of manufacturing in GDP by 25% within a decade, thereby creating 100 million jobs.
