Minimum ITI Diploma
Preferably minimum experience of 2 years in relevant field
The tasks a Turret and Capstan Lathe Operator is expected to perform include:Operating turret or capstan lathe for mass production of metal components
Studying specifications of parts to be fashioned
Ensuring that the tools are set in order of sequence of operation
Clamping work piece accurately in position on lathe using chuck, collets, fixtures or other device
Checking guides and stopping set by tool setter or by self to limit or control movement of tools
Selecting rotation speed of metal as guided and starting machine
Manipulating hand wheels or sets
Starting automatic controls to guide each cutting tool in order of sequence
Controlling the flow of cutting lubricant to tool tips
Observing cutting operation by different tools
Stopping machine after each operation
Checking machines with gauges and measuring instruments
Making necessary adjustments if necessary to ensure accuracy
Maintaining the lubrication, shape and sharpness of lathe tools and machines
Ability to determine specifications by reading blueprints and other documents
Knowledge of when to change worn tools and perform routine maintenance
Skilled in installing the correct tooling and securing the work-piece
Ability to adjust controls as necessary and monitoring the machine
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems and determine proper corrective actions
Proficient in the use of dial indicators, callipers, micrometres, etc. to perform measurements
Will be updated
