Overview of Banking, Financial Services and Insurance Industry in India
Indiaisoneofthefastgrowingeconomiesandsecondmostpopulouscountryintheworld.Withthepopulationofmorethanabillionpeopleandrisingpercapitaincome, India provides an enormous opportunity for the BFSI companies.
The size of banking assets in India reached US$ 1.8 trillion in FY13 and is expected to touch US$ 28.5 trillion by FY25. Investment corpus in India's pension sector could cross US$ 1 trillion by 2025, following the passage of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Act 2013, according to a joint report by CII?EY on Pensions Business in India.
This is also reflected in the changing mix of employees with the share of mid-level employees increasing from 42 percent in 2013-14 to 59 percent in 2021-22. The financial intermediaries segment also employs a sizeable number of people in unorganised sector which are estimated to be 55,032 in 2012-13 and projected to grow to 63,631 by 2021-22.
The sector currently employs over 2.55 million employees and is slated to employ more than 4.2 million employees by 2022. This implies additional creation of 1.6 million jobs in the nine-year period. Keeping in mind the current employment, and the expected growth in the Financial Intermediaries sector, we project that the total employment in the particular segment would increase from about 0.08 million in 2013 to 0.13 million jobs in 2022, which translates to an incremental human resource requirement of about 0.5 million jobs. All these factors mean that there will be a huge demand of Brokers, Share Market across towns and cities in India.
