Convertor Blower

The tasks a Convertor Blower is expected to perform include:

Operating bessemer convertor for obtaining the required carbon content in molten iron for manufacture of steel by blowing

Tilting the convertor by electrical device to receive molten metal from the ladles (coming from mixer furnace)

Blowing air and steam into convertor at required pressure by operating electric switches

Bringing the convertor to vertical position and continuing blowing

Judging the metal condition from flames and sparks shooting out of convertor

Stopping the blowing process when satisfied that molten metal is blown for further processing into steel

Tilting the convertor to pour metal into another ladle for next operation

Competent in operating bessemer convertor

Well-versed with operation procedures & protocol

Proficiency in handling machinery and tools

Competent in watching signals from furnace and power house and take necessary action

Ability to maintain the log book for recording serial number of blow, time, bottom number, vessel number blows on bottom, etc.

Physically fit

Decision-making skills

Problem-solving abilities

Attention to detail

Good communication skills

It requires one to be on their toes

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is a part of this job role

Occupational hazards may include injuries, scalding, serious burns and wounds, hot pieces of metal jumping from the furnace, fire and burn hazards, etc.

Health risks include possible injuries due to exposure to convertor machine and equipment, exposure to hot metal and electric sparks, extreme heat, toxic gases, loud noise, etc.

For candidates with 2 to 4 yearsexperience INR 6,000 to INR 8,000 per month

For candidates with 5 yearsexperience or more INR 8,000 to INR 10,000 per month

It is expected to reach 275 million tonnes by 2020, making it the second largest producer in the world.
