The tasks a Loco Foreman is expected to perform include:Supervising and co-ordinating the work of all employees of loco-shed, under his charge

Inspecting loco-engine before run and ensuring scheduled repairs are carried out

Maintaining required stock of loco-engine and detailing them according to the instructions

Detailing the engine crew for duty according to schedule

Detecting excessive wearing out or flat spots of wheel flanges and undertaking minor repairs

Reporting major defects to superiors

Maintaining relief trains with necessary equipment

Skilled in inspecting the locomotive before and after the runto ensure that it is in perfect running condition

Skilled in tapping parts such as rods, wheels and bolts with hammer, to detect rupture or looseness

Knowledge of measuring wheel flanges with callipers and using depth gauge to detect excessive wear orflat spots

Proficient in undertaking minor repairs

Familiar with replacement process of defective or broken stock of fuel such ascoal, oil and other material

Skilled in attending accidents and joint enquiries
