Minimum ? Preferably Diploma in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering

Certified training for Auto Service Technician Level 6(programme aligned to ASC/Q 1403 released by Automotive Skills Development Council)

1-2 years if ASDC Auto Service Technician Level 5 certificate holder or Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Automobile Engineering 3-7 years for other qualifications

The tasks an Auto Service Technician Level 5 is expected to perform include:

Carrying out complete system diagnostics and full automotive troubleshooting and testing

Performing specialized repairs of mechanical, electrical and electronic faults

Assisting technicians/mechanics in performing repairs

Testing vehicles on the road

Preparing vehicle records and reporting them both manually and on a computer

Ability to perform repairs and preventive maintenance

Understanding of the functioning of each system, component and aggregate of the vehicle

Ability to obtain sufficient information from customers to assess their needs

Knowledge of how to maintain tools and equipment

Basic computer skills

Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)

Ability to maintain an organized and neat workshop

Ability to stay abreast with rapidly changing automotive technology

Ability to maintain a valid driver?s license

Manual dexterity

Physically fit

Knowledge of a local language

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Self-motivated

Team player

Desire to learn new technical information

Customer service-oriented

Good hand-eye co-ordination

It is not a desk job

May need to handle a team of Helpers and other Technicians

Local travelling is a part of this job role

Working hours

Working is up to 9 hours everyday for 6 days a week

Overtime is a common practice

Shift system is available with most service repair garages

Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible
