Library In-charge, Tape

The tasks a Tape Librarian is expected to perform include:

Maintaining data on computer storage media such as magnetic tapes, floppies, discs, cartridge tapes, video discs and microfilms

Maintaining indexed cards and catalogues of the stored data

Issuing data devices to the users

Maintaining accounts of issues and receipts of data devices

Weeding out obsolete data as per instructions given by data owners/controlling officers

Ensuring required storing conditions and reporting deficiencies to controlling officer

Indenting for gadgets and fixtures for maintaining the data devices

Skilled in maintaining data on computer storage media such as floppies, discs, etc.

Basic knowledge of computer database and extracting data when required

Knowledge of making catalogues for tapes present in the library

Ability to assess and examine any defects in the tape

Ability to make sure no data is leaked or accessed without the permission of owner/controlling officer

Knowledge of latest gadgets and devices that may be used for storing data

Basic knowledge of troubleshooting devices

Skilled in making a record of all the inventory movements
