The tasks a Data Base Administrator is expected to perform include:
Co-ordinating physical changes to computer data bases, and coding, testing, and implementing physical data base, and applying knowledge of data base management system
Designing logical and physical data bases or reviewing description of changes to data base design to understand how changes to be made affect physical data base (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics, such as location, amount of space, and access method)
Establishing physical data base parameters
Coding data base descriptions and specifying identifiers of data base to data base management system or directing others in coding data base descriptions
Proficient in calculating optimum values for data base parameters, such as amount of computer memory to be used by data base, following manuals and using calculator
Adept with specifying user access level for each segment of one or more data items, such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data
Knowledge of specifying which users can access data bases and what data can be accessed by user
Well-versed with testing and correcting errors, and refining changes to data base
Proficient in entering codes to create production data base
Adept with selecting and entering codes of utility programme to monitor data base performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory
Knowledge of directing programmers and analysts to make changes to data base management system
Knowledge of reviewing and correcting programmes
Proficient in answering user questions
Proficiency in conferring with co-workers to determine impact of data base changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to data base
Well-versed with modifying data base programmes to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning
Proficient in one or more types of data base management systems
Proficient in training users
Will be updated

Current Trends of IT & ITES Sector in India
In 2012, the Indian IT & ITeS sector crossed the US$100 billion milestone; it grew by almost 1,000 times in the last two decades on the basis of cost arbitration, skill availability and government support. The sector is estimated to grow at an 11.5 percent CAGR over 2008-2013 to reach US$108.4 billion. The IT & ITeS industry is expected to reach US$300 billion by 2020 driven by rising demand in domestic market, along with increasing IT Services exports. The CAGR for 2013-2020 is estimated to be 16 percent.
In the IT Exports segment, a large portion of the workforce is currently engineers and MCAs over 80%. The proportion of graduates of science and other streams engaged in software development is expected to show significant increase from about 5% to 10% currently to about 15% to 20%.The Indian IT and ITES Industry would record about US $ 220 billion in exports and US $ 60 billion domestically by 2022, totaling to about US $ 260 billion growing at a CAGR of 12.8%.
Based on the trends witnessed in productivity and the likely growth potential of the IT and ITES industry, it is expected that The sector is estimated to provide direct employment to about 3 million people in 2013 up by 7 percent from 2012 with a majority of opportunities in IT export services. The sector provides indirect employment to about 9.5 million people. The sector is expected to employ about 5.1 million professionals directly in FY22 and exports are likely to continue to dominate. This would definitely lead to an increase in employment opportunities of Data Base Administrator across towns and cities in India.
