Minimum Preferably 10th standard pass
Certified training for Colourist (programme aligned to MES/Q3502 released by Media & Entertainment Skills Council)
Preferably minimum experience of 1 or more years in related field
The tasks a Colourist is expected to perform include:
Enhancing and/or correcting the colour, to reflect the desired creative style and mood of the production
Merging various layers/elements created during post-production into a final product
Enhancing and balancing a story?s content by maintaining its consistency
Preparing and finalizing effort estimates and work plan in accordance to requirements
Assessing the mood, creative look, style and visual treatment
Understanding and assessing the media format, resolution and required format of the end output
Knowledge of relevant software required e.g. Silhouette, Nuke, Fusion, Combustion, Shake Premier, PF track, After Effects, Renderman, Quantel, Smoke, Flame, Avid, 3DS Max and FCP
Knowledge of translating script requirements and post-production objectives into a schedule
Knowledge of post-production techniques
Familiar with the implications of each activity on time, materials, equipment, manpower and budget
Familiar with the impact of each activity on the entire process workflow
Skilled in estimating cost and time requirements
Knowledge of applicable copyright norms and intellectual property rights
Knowledge of the format, resolution and quality in which the material would need to be ingested, based on the intended final output
Equipped in identifying issues with the raw material/footage prior to or during the ingest process
Knowledge of the file-naming conventions appropriate to the production
Knowledge of the theory of colour and depth
Familiar with the principles and techniques of colour grading
Basic knowledge of photography and lighting
Knowledge of grading software such as Apple's Final Cut Pro, Adobe's After Effects and Premiere
Knowledge of using colour grading equipment i.e. colour correctors, telecine and synchronizer
Skilled in calibrating the software to the required colour space
Knowledge of the best colouring practices prevalent in the domestic and international industry
