The tasks a Civil Engineer, Highways and Roads is expected to perform include:
Planning, organizing and supervising construction and repair of roads, including culverts and bridges
Undertaking reconnaissance and topographical surveys to gather information to decide suitable route for road construction
Preparing himself or getting it prepared by Draftsman Civil, a detailed drawing with complete specifications such as width of road, foundation, drainage system, bridges, culverts etc.
Arranging for labour, machinery and materials and commencing work under his direct or authorised supervision
Checking work from time to time to ensure proper consolidation of earth work and prevent sinking of roads
Checking measurements taken by Overseer (Civil) for payment of bill
Inspecting completed work and handing over completed project to client
Inviting tenders and assigning road construction to approved Contractors
Maintaining road making machinery like road rollers, concrete mire, etc. in working order
Arranging road side plantation and their maintenance
Competent in planning and directing activities
Well-versed in preparing designs and construction plans
Proficiency in determining organizational requirements
Knowledge about preparing budget estimates Well versed in regulation of rates of civil supplies and raw materials
